McKinney’s history starts in 1849 with William Davis, who owned thousands of acres of land where McKinney now sits. He donated 120 acres to establish the town. It only took a decade for the city to incorporate.It was named after Collin McKinney who signed the Texas Declaration of Independence, McKinney was always well-known for being friendly to farmers. It provided farmers with corn, flour, cotton mills, cotton compresses, cotton gins, and a cottonseed oil mill. The economy was bustling and McKinney properties were in high demand because of the number of individuals wishing to prosper from the land. By 1953, the population was 10,000 and there were over 350 businesses. Throughout the years, it continued to grow to over 130,000 residents, according to the 2010 census.
